Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV, part 1 (update 1.72)

Polyphony Digital released update 1.72 on 15 October: part 1 of Spec IV, the update marking 30 years of Gran Turismo. According to the official announcement:

  • Six new cars: Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston '86, Ferrari F355 Berlinetta '94, Honda Civic Si Group A '87, Honda Step WGN Spada '23, Mazda RX-Vision GT3 EVO '26 and the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo.
  • New track: SUGO International Racing Course in Japan, 3,586 metres with 13 corners and a gradient of up to 10% in the final corner.
  • Garage and collection: a Vintage section and Car Concierge in Brand Central, a Car Viewer and a Collector Level cap raised from 70 to 90.
  • New World Circuits events and brand-based 'Experience' challenges.

Part 2 follows in December. On 14 October Sony also announced a DualSense Gran Turismo Limited Edition. According to Traxion it costs €84.99, pre-orders open on 22 October and it goes on sale on 10 December.

From the pit wall SUGO is a hilly, technical track with a long straight after the steep final corner. That should make for good battles in Gr.3, especially with the RX-Vision GT3 EVO joining the class.

Rennsport: four Hypercars for a new pack

Between 12 and 15 October Rennsport shared a series of teasers for a new content pack. According to Traxion, that adds up to four Hypercars: the Lamborghini SC63, the Genesis GMR-001, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH and the 2026-spec Toyota TR010. Rennsport says the pack fills existing classes. The full line-up and a release date will follow at the SimRacing Expo in Frankfurt.

According to an earlier Rennsport community debrief, the next game update is expected this month, with better graphics on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and larger grids in private lobbies.

From the pit wall Four Hypercars in one week, and the Genesis and the new Toyota are barely available anywhere else yet. Curious what Frankfurt adds to that.

Project Motor Racing: World Endurance Pack

Project Motor Racing announced the World Endurance Pack on 13 October. The DLC arrives on 10 November and is included in the Year 1 Season Pass. According to Traxion it brings eleven cars in four classes:

  • LMP1: Audi R18 (2016), Porsche 919 Hybrid and Toyota TS050 Hybrid.
  • LMP2 and LMP2 EVO: the fictional Olivera P2-13 and P2-26 EVO.
  • IMSA GTP: six cars from 1986–1988, including the Jaguar XJR-9 and the Porsche 962.

Fuji Speedway also joins with six layouts, including the original 1966 version with its steep banked corner.

From the pit wall An LMP1 grid with the 919, R18 and TS050 is a nice flashback to the hybrid era. For long team races in prototypes, the iRacing stint planner already works out the stints and fuel stops.

RaceRoom: historic cars and four tracks

On 13 October RaceRoom showed a teaser of four 'legendary' tracks. Which ones is not yet known. Traxion spots the Bus Stop chicane of a classic Spa-Francorchamps layout in the image, but RaceRoom has not confirmed that. RaceRoom had already shown historic cars, including two Super Tourers, a Mini and an Abarth. The full reveal follows at the SimRacing Expo: online in a Grid Talk on Friday 16 October and on stage on Saturday 17 October.

From the pit wall The historic theme fits nicely with the classic Silverstone already in RaceRoom. We'll hear exactly what it is on Friday during the Expo.

eNASCAR: third title for Steven Wilson

The finale of the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series was held on Tuesday 13 October at a virtual Homestead-Miami Speedway, live from the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Steven Wilson (Spire Motorsports) finished second, securing his third title in four seasons and his second in a row. $100,000 was on the line.

The race itself went to Parker White of Williams F1 Team Gaming after two rounds of eNASCAR Overtime. White announced afterwards that he is leaving the series. According to iRacing, the Williams F1 Team is also stepping away from sim racing after Homestead.

From the pit wall A title won with a second place and a winner saying goodbye: a finale with two stories. Losing Williams is a real loss for the esports grid.
