RaceRoom: Historic Update on 20 October

On Friday 16 October, KW Studios used episode 10 of Grid Talk to show what the Historic Update 2026 brings. RaceRoom calls it the biggest update in the game's history. It arrives on Tuesday 20 October.

  • Super Touring: the Peugeot 406 and the Ford Mondeo.
  • Group 2: the Abarth 1000 TCR and the Mini Cooper S Mk3.
  • Tracks: Spa-Francorchamps 1995, Laguna Seca Historic, Fliegerhorst Wunstorf and Glasbachrennen, a 5.3 km German hill climb.

RaceRoom is also announcing major changes to the game itself.

Assetto Corsa EVO: Free Roam on 9 December

On Friday 16 October at the Expo, Kunos Simulazioni and publisher 505 Games announced that Assetto Corsa EVO update 0.10 arrives on 9 December. It brings Free Roam to the Early Access version on PC.

  • A 1:1 recreation of part of the Eifel, with the Nordschleife, the surrounding villages and the roads between them.
  • Changing weather, a day and night cycle, AI traffic and Time Attack events.
  • The map will grow with future updates.

Visitors to the Expo could already play Free Roam in Frankfurt.

Rennsport: Hypercar Expansion Pack

Rennsport revealed the Hypercar Expansion Pack, a new DLC, at the Expo. Its Steam page lists four cars:

  • Aston Martin Valkyrie LMH
  • Toyota GR010 Hybrid
  • Lamborghini SC63 LMDh
  • Genesis GMR-001

At the same time, the whole Hypercar class gets a physics update, with a reworked Balance of Performance, hybrid battery deployment and more realistic tyre wear over double stints. There is no release date or price yet. All four cars were available to test at the Expo.

From the pit wall Tyre wear over double stints turns the Hypercar class into a strategy game straight away. Now we just need a date.

Hardware: Fanatec Obsidian, Simagic and Moza

Fanatec showed a range of new products in Frankfurt on 16 October:

  • Project Obsidian: a prototype wheel with a 5-inch colour display under a single piece of glass. It is designed for SimHub and consoles and sends telemetry over USB or Wi-Fi. Launch is planned for 2027.
  • ClubSport Pedals V4: the first ground-up redesign of the ClubSport Pedals since 2008, in the mid-range. They also arrive in 2027.
  • Podium Pedals Sport: on sale since 16 October, with two pedals and aluminium GT pedal plates.
  • ClubSport Formula V3 Oracle Red Bull Racing: a wheel styled after the RB22, from mid-November.

Simagic presented its P-ACTIVE active pedal on 14 October ($999, shipping from 18 November) and two co-branded steering wheels, including an Aston Martin Valkyrie wheel. Alpha EVO Pro owners can now upgrade their base to 21 Nm for free.

Moza brought its biggest Expo showcase yet to Frankfurt, with eight simulators and its first PlayStation 5 products. Moza has not yet given a price or release date for the PS5 products.

From the pit wall A Fanatec wheel with a big colour display has been on plenty of wish lists for years. Patience, though: Obsidian only arrives in 2027.

iRacing: Indy 8 Hour and a multiclass start test

From 16 to 18 October, teams raced the 8 Hours of Indianapolis in GT3 cars on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

On 16 October iRacing also started an iTested Series. Until 19 October, members are testing a new starting procedure for multiclass races with multiple pace cars:

  • Classes: IMSA GTP, LMP2 and GT3.
  • Tracks: Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (16–17 October) and Le Mans (18–19 October).
  • Races: 30 minutes. Incidents count towards your Safety Rating; your iRating does not change.

Everyone who takes part earns the rare iTested Award.

From the pit wall A calmer multiclass start saves a lot of jostling into the first corner. Racing the next endurance event with a team? The iRacing stint planner works out the stints and fuel stops for you.
