Sim racing news: RaceRoom Historic, Rennsport and LMU 24h
After the SimRacing Expo, much of the announced news actually came out this week. The highlights:
- RaceRoom put the Historic Update live on 21 October, with four cars, four new venues and a new menu.
- Rennsport released the Hypercar Expansion Pack on 23 October, together with 24-driver grids.
- Le Mans Ultimate ran two 24-hour races at Le Mans on 23 and 24 October.
- Next Level Racing released the F-GT Shift, a cockpit that goes from GT to Formula without tools.
- The iRacing store now also shows prices including VAT.
RaceRoom: the Historic Update is live
RaceRoom went into maintenance on Tuesday 20 October for the Historic Update 2026. KW Studios said it could take up to 24 hours. The download was ready that evening, and the servers reopened at around 9:30 CEST on Wednesday 21 October.
- Group 2: the Abarth 1000 TCR and the Mini Cooper Mk3, with liveries from the Kampf der Zwerge series.
- Super Touring: the 1998 Peugeot 406 and the Ford Mondeo.
- Tracks: Spa-Francorchamps 1995 (the Endurance layout supports grids of up to 99 cars), the 1980s Laguna Seca Historic, Fliegerhorst Wunstorf, the Glasbachrennen hill climb and an updated Hockenheimring.
There is also a new menu, the power steering behind the force feedback has been rebuilt and there is a manual rolling start. VR now runs through OpenXR. Statistics are back and count from 20 October; old numbers were not carried over. Liveries are no longer sold separately: buy a car and you get all its liveries. Test Drive now lets you try any car on any track you own.
Also new: the Alpine Sim Racing Series is moving to RaceRoom. The first competitions for the Alpine A110 and the Alpine GT4 at Nogaro are already listed on raceroom.com.
From the pit wall Spa '95 with 99 cars on the Endurance layout: we want to try that as a club race. Check your force feedback first, though, because it has changed a lot.
Rennsport: Hypercar Expansion Pack is out
A week after its reveal at the Expo, the Hypercar Expansion Pack came out on Friday 23 October at 10:00 CEST, together with Rennsport version 1.2.18. The paid DLC adds four cars:
- Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH
- Lamborghini SC63
- Toyota TR010 Hybrid
- Genesis GMR-001
The whole Hypercar class gets a new tyre model and reworked engine power, aerodynamics, setups and balancing. The free update also brings:
- Custom Contests: grids go from 12 to 24 drivers and races can last 60 minutes instead of 30.
- Championships: a new Modern Prototypes playlist with three championships.
- Visuals: less shimmering on fences and grass, mainly on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- SimHub: official support on PC, without separate scripts.
From the pit wall A grid of 24 and an hour of racing makes Rennsport usable for a league night. SimHub support is a nice bonus for anyone with a dash on their wheel.
Le Mans Ultimate: two 24-hour races at Le Mans
Le Mans Ultimate held a 24-hour special event on the WEC layout at Le Mans on Friday 23 October (start 11:00 UTC) and Saturday 24 October (13:30 UTC).
- Classes: Hypercar, LMP2 (WEC) and LMGT3, in splits of 62 cars.
- Entry: Safety Rating B2, open setups and no tyre warmers.
- Tyres: 58 for qualifying and race combined, and the fair share rule applied.
Entrants had to record network logs (RUDP) and send them in if they ran into problems. The next special event is the 8 Hours of Bahrain in the week of 10 November, with Hypercar and LMGT3.
From the pit wall A grid of 62, a night and maybe rain: LMU itself warned that a light PC won't cope. So test it in single player before you sign up.
Hardware: NLR F-GT Shift and Logitech at NASCAR
Next Level Racing released the F-GT Shift on 22 October. The cockpit switches from a GT to a Formula position in under five seconds, without tools. There is also an in-between Hybrid position.
- Frame: steel, built for direct drive bases, pedals and a separate shifter. The shifter arm is included and fits on either side.
- Seat: a reclining mesh seat (SIMAERO) that works with the HF8 and HF8 Pro haptic pads.
- Price: € 499 in Europe.
Logitech G became NASCAR's Official Sim Racing Hardware Partner on 23 October, in a multi-year deal. At Talladega, fans could already try Logitech's simulators on 24 and 25 October.
From the pit wall If you race both GT3 and open-wheelers, you know the hassle of readjusting. Five seconds sounds good. No rig yet? Read our guide to building a sim racing rig first.
iRacing: prices with VAT and the FF1600 Festival
Since 22 October, the iRacing store outside the United States shows the price of cars and tracks both with and without VAT. Until now you only saw the amount including VAT at checkout. The prices themselves are not changing.
On 30 and 31 October the CONSPIT FF1600 Festival is on the schedule:
- Car: the Ray FF1600.
- Track: Brands Hatch, Indy layout.
- Format: heat races, just like the real Formula Ford Festival.
From the pit wall A Formula Ford at Brands Hatch Indy: short, fast and little room for mistakes. Never raced online? Read your first online race first.
